Big Data vs Data Science vs Data Analytics Part 1

Big Data vs Data Science vs Data Analytics Part 1

Welcome to the blog that brings you all the data. Well, probably not all the data, but we are going to talk a lot about data in this article. Terms like 'Big Data', 'Data Science', and 'Data Analytics' are thrown around a lot, but what do they mean? How do they affect our lives? Let's dive in. In this post -- Part 1, we'll look at Big Data.

Machine Learning: More than the Sum of Parts

Machine Learning: More than the Sum of Parts

I have worked on computers -- taking them apart, putting them back together, and everything in between -- for over four years now. Machines, including computers, are created from several constituent parts physically connected by hardware (wires) and integrated by software. The number of parts depends on the complexity of the machine. The functions of most machines we encounter today are merely the sum of their parts. By contrast, machine learning, in the words of Arthur Samuel in 1959 gives "computers the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed".  In other words, machine learning allows computers and other machines to move past the sum of their parts and perform new, complex functions.

Adding CSS Animations to Your Squarespace Site - Part 2

Adding CSS Animations to Your Squarespace Site - Part 2

In July, I wrote a blog post on implementing Justin Aguilar's CSS Animation Cheat Sheet into your Squarespace site. I am honored and truly humbled by the amount of traffic that article received, and the number of people that took the time to thank me for publishing it via the comments. <3

Several people asked if there was a way to have access to more animations. Justin's sheet is phenomenal but his animation options are perhaps too playful and bouncy. So, in this article, Part 2, we pioneer together again and I will teach you how to implement an entirely different and significantly larger library of CSS Animations into your Squarespace site, named Animate.css, created by Daniel Eden. You can find Part 1 here

Meet Roadie - America's New Peer-to-Peer Delivery Network

Meet Roadie - America's New Peer-to-Peer Delivery Network

What do the Fast and Furious movies, hip hop, and Roadie have in common? All three have been improved by the involvement of rapper, producer, actor, entrepreneur Chris "Ludacris" Bridges.

But what is Roadie? And why did Ludacris invest? Let's take a look.

Drover Rideshare March Madness

Drover Rideshare March Madness

As of the writing of this blog, we are finished with the First and Second Rounds and gearing up for the "Sweet 16" Regional Semifinals of the March Madness College Basketball Championship. Happy Saint Patrick's Day from Drover Rideshare!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day from Drover Rideshare!

It is absolutely humbling to us to think that last year at this time, Drover wasn't even started yet, and since then we have made some incredible progress. In the spirit of being thankful for progress and excitement for everyone being GREEN all day today, we wanted to wish all of our readers and the world a happy Saint Patrick's Day, and share the history of this holiday.

Drover Music

Drover Music

In addition to the core functionality of the Drover app (facilitating ridesharing), we are working on developing a new feature, Drover Music, that will also allow riders to request and play songs from their phone during their ride. The rider will use Spotify to search for a song to request to play. The request will be received by the driver if the driver allows songs to be played in their vehicle. Once the request is approved, the song will play through the driver’s phone using Spotify while the driver continues to the rider’s requested destination.

Drover Features: Autonomous Vehicle Technology

Drover Features: Autonomous Vehicle Technology

The future of transportation is nearly upon us -- cars driving themselves. This technology, previously the stuff of tv shows and movies, is actually becoming a reality on the road, with companies like Tesla successfully delivering a self-driving system to their newer vehicles and many more firms close behind. The allure of self-driving cars is clear -- more relaxing and restful drives, enhanced road-trip experience, accident prevention, etc. This blog aims to cover the primary benefits of self-driving cars as I perceive them as well as to summarize the current state of this technology.

Drover Delivery

Drover Delivery

The On-Demand Economy is here. To recap from my On-Demand Economy blog entry, the On-Demand economy is composed of people-to-people transactions facilitated by technology companies (aka smartphone apps), in which people order goods or services and other people deliver/provide that good/service. In order to rise to the opportunity the On-Demand Economy presents, Drover is proud to announce Drover Delivery, a service by which app users will be able to order food (and hopefully other goods) delivered to them by our drivers.

Phenomenal 30+ MPG Cars Part 5: Mazda, Subaru, Kia, Hyundai

Phenomenal 30+ MPG Cars Part 5: Mazda, Subaru, Kia, Hyundai

This post is the fifth and final in my series of phenomenal cars under 30mpg. Until pure electric technology improves, we can look to traditional cars with internal combustion engines with high fuel efficiency/economy as a temporary solution or at least movement in the right direction. This series features some of the most popular and affordable of these such cars.

Phenomenal 30+ MPG Cars Part 4: Ford, VW

Phenomenal 30+ MPG Cars Part 4: Ford, VW

This post is the third in my series of phenomenal cars under 30mpg, covering Ford and Volkswagen. Until pure electric technology improves, we can look to traditional cars with internal combustion engines with high fuel efficiency/economy as a temporary solution or at least movement in the right direction. This series features some of the most popular and affordable of these such cars.

Phenomenal 30+ MPG Cars Part 3: Honda, Nissan

This post is the third in my series of phenomenal cars under 30mpg. Until pure electric technology improves, we can look to traditional cars with internal combustion engines with high fuel efficiency/economy as a temporary solution or at least movement in the right direction. This series features some of the most popular and affordable of these such cars. Part 1 covered Toyota's 30mpg+ models; Part 2 covered Chevy, Dodge, GMC, and Buick; this post will continue the discussion.

Phenomenal 30+ MPG Cars Part 2: Chevy, Dodge, GMC, Buick

This post is the second in my series highlighting the best cars that get over 30 miles per gallon (combined city and highway). Until pure electric technology improves, we can look to traditional cars with internal combustion engines with high fuel efficiency/economy as a temporary solution or at least movement in the right direction.

Phenomenal Cars 30+ MPG Cars - Part 1: Series Intro, Toyota

Until we reach our first year where international emissions are drastically increased by electric cars and sustainable tech, it is wise for consumers and manufacturers to seek compromise -- delivering traditional cars with as high fuel efficiency as possible. Meaning, if for the time being we "have to" use gas-burning cars, let's maximize the distance we are traveling for each gallon of gas.

The On-Demand Economy

The On-Demand Economy

The On-Demand Economy can be defined as the marketplace created by technology companies that connect people with each other to more immediately position and provide goods and services. In other words, the on-demand economy is composed of people-to-people transactions facilitated by technology companies (aka smartphone apps), in which people order goods or services and other people deliver/provide that good/service. The 'on-demand' portion highlights how quickly this exchange can occur when consumers or those with demand are able to connect directly with suppliers (or agents of supply, eg delivery people who are not actually making food but delivering it).

Drover's Call to Action on Climate Change

Drover's Call to Action on Climate Change

As I briefly discussed in a previous blog, the Paris Agreement -- the world's first comprehensive climate agreement -- came into force on November 4, 2016 (about 2 weeks before this article was written). 109 heads of sovereign states agreed to the agreement, including China and the United States. The Atlantic did a phenomenal job of summarizing the implications of the Paris Agreement, and I will first briefly summarize their points in order to contextualize the importance of this moment in history.
