Drover + COVID-19 Update

Drover + COVID-19 Update

Drivers, riders, and supporters of all things Drover — these are unprecedented times. We have all surely been effected at this point by Coronavirus; people have lost jobs, entire industries have temporarily shut down, our personal lives have been drastically altered by calls for social distancing. This blog is purposed to serve as an update on the status of COVID-19 in the state of Tennessee as well as provide insight into the actions that Drover is taking as a company to enact precautions and best practices to prevent the spread of the virus.

The Tesla Gigafactory

The Tesla Gigafactory

Tesla, the world's foremost electric car company, is taking the renewable energy sector by storm. For decades, renewable energy has been scoffed at as a reliable means to power cars and homes because of excessive cost, lack of widespread availability, and distribution. Tesla already fought and beat this problem with the Tesla Models S and X -- relatively affordable ($60k+) consumer cars powered solely by electric motors and batteries. Throughout Tesla's adventures producing electric cars, a major issue they have encountered is the cost of lithium ion batteries. The Gigafactory is Tesla's gigantic solution.

Volvo Cars Soon to Boast Fully Electric Fleet

Volvo Cars Soon to Boast Fully Electric Fleet

In light of Tesla's phenomenal success, many car manufacturers are releasing plug-in electric hybrids and fully-electric cars. Volvo Cars, however, is taking this trend to a whole new level. Founded in 1927, Volvo Cars has announced intentions to build an electric motor into every car in their fleet by 2019 -- just two short years away. This transition will mark the end of an era as over the past century the company has powered their cars solely by the internal combustion engine.

Elon Musk's "The Boring Company"

Elon Musk's "The Boring Company"

Despite this, visionary founder of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, is on the job to bring you a never before seen innovation to driving. Except, instead of taking your car to the skies, he wants to take it underground via The Boring Company.

Tesla Semi Truck

Tesla Semi Truck

In my last blog, I featured the Toyota Mirai, their self-proclaimed car of the future. In today's blog, we are going to take another glimpse at the future in discussing the Tesla Semi Truck. Although the idea of a Tesla Semi is still a whisper based off of a suggestion. In his Master Plan Deux, Elon Musk alluded to a "Tesla Semi". According to Musk, the Tesla Semi will be ready witin a few years.

Meet the Toyota Mirai

Meet the Toyota Mirai

The Toyota Mirai is the world's first commercially sold hydrogen fuel cell car. Toyota believes that hydrogen fuel cell cars -- like their Mirai -- are the future of automotive transport; appropriately, the vehicle's name, "Mirai", is Japanese for 'future'. Today's blog will take a deeper look at the Mirai, answer questions such as how much it will cost if you want to by one, how hydrogen fuel cells work, and how Toyota's newest addition to their fleet compares to Drover's favorite car of the tomorrow: the Tesla Model S.

Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality

Augmented reality is technology that superimposes computer-generated screens or images over the user's normal vision of reality. Unlike virtual reality technologies which totally repalace your vision of reality, often forcing you to sit down so you don't hurt yourself walking around, augmented reality is designed to work in tandem with your normal life. Also unlike virtual reality tech, augmented reality is not widely available to consumers. However, this will likely change by the end of 2017.

Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality

For decades, virtual reality has been a thing of science fiction and imagination. In the past few years, however, virtual reality (VR) has not only emerged on dedicated headsets, but made it to our fingertips, available now on many smartphones. Virtual reality is the computer-rendered simulation of a 3D environment that we (people) can interact with in natural ways. The technology used to deliver VR experiences varies greatly. In this blog, we will talk about the two different major types of VR tech and possible future directions for the industry.

Drover Thoughts on The Internet of Things

Drover Thoughts on The Internet of Things

It seems like almost every day, another smart, connected device comes out. Examples include the Apple Watch, Samsung Gear, the Fitbit, Nest thermostats, Samsung smart refrigerators, Amazon Echo, Google Home, smart lighting fixtures for homes, etc. The Internet of Things is the growing network of inter-connected machines online working in the cloud. There is a lot to unpack there, so let's jump in.

Big Data vs Data Science vs Data Analytics Part 2

Big Data vs Data Science vs Data Analytics Part 2

Welcome to the second installment of the blog that brings you all the data. Well, probably not all the data, but we are going to talk a lot about data in this article. Terms like 'Big Data', 'Data Science', and 'Data Analytics' are thrown around a lot, but what do they mean? How do they affect our lives? Let's dive in. In this post -- Part 2, we'll look at Data Science and Data Analytics

Machine Learning: More than the Sum of Parts

Machine Learning: More than the Sum of Parts

I have worked on computers -- taking them apart, putting them back together, and everything in between -- for over four years now. Machines, including computers, are created from several constituent parts physically connected by hardware (wires) and integrated by software. The number of parts depends on the complexity of the machine. The functions of most machines we encounter today are merely the sum of their parts. By contrast, machine learning, in the words of Arthur Samuel in 1959 gives "computers the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed".  In other words, machine learning allows computers and other machines to move past the sum of their parts and perform new, complex functions.

Adding CSS Animations to Your Squarespace Site - Part 2

Adding CSS Animations to Your Squarespace Site - Part 2

In July, I wrote a blog post on implementing Justin Aguilar's CSS Animation Cheat Sheet into your Squarespace site. I am honored and truly humbled by the amount of traffic that article received, and the number of people that took the time to thank me for publishing it via the comments. <3

Several people asked if there was a way to have access to more animations. Justin's sheet is phenomenal but his animation options are perhaps too playful and bouncy. So, in this article, Part 2, we pioneer together again and I will teach you how to implement an entirely different and significantly larger library of CSS Animations into your Squarespace site, named Animate.css, created by Daniel Eden. You can find Part 1 here

Meet Roadie - America's New Peer-to-Peer Delivery Network

Meet Roadie - America's New Peer-to-Peer Delivery Network

What do the Fast and Furious movies, hip hop, and Roadie have in common? All three have been improved by the involvement of rapper, producer, actor, entrepreneur Chris "Ludacris" Bridges.

But what is Roadie? And why did Ludacris invest? Let's take a look.

Drover Music

Drover Music

In addition to the core functionality of the Drover app (facilitating ridesharing), we are working on developing a new feature, Drover Music, that will also allow riders to request and play songs from their phone during their ride. The rider will use Spotify to search for a song to request to play. The request will be received by the driver if the driver allows songs to be played in their vehicle. Once the request is approved, the song will play through the driver’s phone using Spotify while the driver continues to the rider’s requested destination.

Drover Features: Autonomous Vehicle Technology

Drover Features: Autonomous Vehicle Technology

The future of transportation is nearly upon us -- cars driving themselves. This technology, previously the stuff of tv shows and movies, is actually becoming a reality on the road, with companies like Tesla successfully delivering a self-driving system to their newer vehicles and many more firms close behind. The allure of self-driving cars is clear -- more relaxing and restful drives, enhanced road-trip experience, accident prevention, etc. This blog aims to cover the primary benefits of self-driving cars as I perceive them as well as to summarize the current state of this technology.
